East Side Bagels is a third-culture brand that blends the classic American bagel with Eastern-inspired flavors.
The visual identity is playful and nostalgic, incorporating a mix of serif and bold sans-serif typography, hand-drawn doodles, and warm, earthy tones. The branding reinforces a community-driven, retro-inspired feel that connects tradition with modern food culture.
The design direction is heavily inspired by New York Diners, seen through the primary logo text arrangement and the use of checkered patterns. We bring in an Eastern element through the geometric star graphic that is often seen in Arabic and Islamic cultures. We see this applied on the Instagram stories, particularly the symbol logo seen on the bottom right of the 3rd story.
Another key aspect of the brand is the animated bagel illustrations - these intend to keep the brand playful and fun and better suited to appeal to younger and family audiences.
